Olympia Chimney Crown Repair: The Henderson Owner’s Guide
A failed Olympia Chimney crown: it’s the concrete cap on top of your chimney that keeps rain, snow (rare as it is in Henderson), and the relentless desert wind from getting down into your flue and firebox. We stock and install Olympia Chimney-compatible crowns and crown repair materials right here in Henderson, with most repairs running between $450 and $900 depending on the extent of the damage and how much of the existing crown needs to be rebuilt. If your crown is cracked, spalled, or letting water in, we can usually get it fixed within the same week.

How most Henderson homeowners notice: they see a crack in the concrete up top, or they spot water staining on the ceiling near the fireplace after a rare winter storm. Sometimes it’s a musty smell when the wind blows hard. We caught one in Green Valley last March where the crown had separated from the flue tile on the windward side: the desert sun had done its work, and the owner had no idea until the stain showed up. Know what’s in your flue before you light the first fire of the season.
Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To
Olympia Chimney makes a range of prefabricated chimney systems and components used in both wood-burning and gas fireplace installations. The crown we’re talking about here is the poured or pre-cast concrete cap that sits on top of the masonry or chase-mounted chimney structure. If you have an Olympia Chimney air-cooled or insulated chimney system, the crown is the part that seals the top of the chase. If you have a traditional masonry chimney with an Olympia Chimney flue liner, the crown is the sloped concrete surface that sheds water away from the flue tile.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: crown repair isn’t a one-size-fits-all job. The crown dimensions depend on the outside dimensions of your chimney chase or masonry structure, not just the flue size. When we come out, we measure the chase opening, the flue diameter, and the slope of the existing crown. Olympia Chimney systems commonly run 6″, 7″, and 8″ flue diameters, but the crown has to match the chase, and the chase can be anywhere from 14″ square to 24″ square depending on the model. If someone shows up and wants to pour a crown without measuring the actual opening, they’re guessing.
One more thing worth knowing: Olympia Chimney makes both pre-cast crowns and field-poured systems. The pre-cast versions are convenient, but many Henderson homeowners end up with field-formed crowns because the original installer poured them on site. We can match either approach. If the crown is pre-cast and cracked beyond repair, we source a direct replacement or form-and-pour a new one to spec. We’re an independent chimney service company: we’re not affiliated with Olympia Chimney, but we stock their parts and we know how their systems fit together.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing
- Cracks in the crown surface. Hairline cracks turn into wider gaps as desert temperature swings expand and contract the concrete. Once water gets into a crack, freeze-thaw cycles (yes, Henderson gets below freezing at night in winter) widen it further.
- Water staining inside the home near the fireplace. A failing crown lets water run down the outside of the flue and into the chase or wall cavity. By the time you see the stain, the crown has been leaking for a while.
- Spalling or crumbling concrete on the crown. If you see small pieces of concrete on the roof or in the gutter near the chimney, the crown surface is breaking down. This is the most common failure mode in Henderson: intense UV and low humidity age the concrete faster than the rest of the country.
- A musty smell inside the firebox or chase. Water that sits in the chase or behind the wall will eventually produce mildew. If it smells sour inside the fireplace, the crown is a likely source.
- Visible gaps between the crown and the flue tile. The sealant between the flue and the crown fails over time, especially when the original installer used the wrong caulk. We see this on Olympia Chimney systems where the flue pipe expands at a different rate than the concrete crown.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A typical Olympia Chimney crown repair in Henderson runs between $450 and $900, and the range depends on a few specific things:
- Crown condition. If the existing crown has a couple of cracks we can seal and re-coat, you’re at the lower end. If the crown is spalled and needs to be removed and re-poured, you’re at the higher end.
- Access. Single-story homes are easier to reach than two-story chases. If we need a longer ladder run or a lift, that adds to the labor and price.
- Chase size. Bigger chases mean more concrete, more forming, more time.
- Sealant and crown coat. We use professional-grade crown sealant and water repellent on every repair. This is not the caulk from the hardware store.
Here’s what we include on a standard crown repair: the written price before we start, the parts and materials, the labor, the clean-up, and a photograph of the finished crown before we leave. Every crown repair is also covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within the year, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
If you can safely get on your roof and you just want to see what’s going on, you can check for visible cracks or spalling. But here’s the honest split: crown repair requires removing and re-forming concrete, which is heavy, awkward work at height. You’re working with wet concrete, on a sloped roof, around a hole that drops straight down into your home. If you drop a trowel, it goes down the flue. If you mis-form the crown, water still gets in, and you’ve just paid twice.
We’ve also seen DIY repairs where people used roofing tar or hardware-store caulk to seal cracks. That lasts about a season in Henderson. The sun does what the sun does. If you want the repair to hold, you need a proper crown coat and the right sealant. FAQs
A properly poured and sealed chimney crown in Henderson typically lasts 15 to 20 years before it needs real repair, but the sealant layer needs to be refreshed every 3 to 5 years. The desert sun and the temperature swings between day and night do more damage than rain or snow ever will. If your crown is over a decade old and you haven’t had it looked at, it’s worth a call.
Yes, if the cracks are hairline and the crown surface is still solid, we can clean out the cracks, fill them with a flexible crown repair compound, and then seal the entire crown with a waterproof coating. If the crown is spalled or the cracks go all the way through, replacement is the only real fix. We’ll show you the photos and tell you straight.
Most crown repairs take between 2 and 4 hours on site. Forming and pouring a new crown is closer to 4 hours because the concrete has to set up enough to finish. After we leave, the crown needs about 24 hours before it’s fully cured, so we schedule around the weather to make sure no rain hits it before it sets.
We keep the most common Olympia Chimney-compatible crown materials, sealants, and forming supplies on the truck, along with flue tiles, caps, and chase covers. If your repair needs a specific pre-cast piece, we source it from our supplier and schedule the install as soon as it arrives. We also carry parts from DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco for related chimney repairs.
