Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Henderson Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Copperfield-compatible flue liners for Henderson homes, with most full replacements running between $2,400 and $4,800 installed depending on flue height, liner diameter, and access. Our trucks carry common Copperfield sizes, so we can often complete the swap in a single visit. Most Henderson homeowners discover the liner has failed during a routine inspection after years of desert-temperature expansion and contraction, not because of any dramatic event. You’ll usually see flaking clay tile pieces in the firebox, or our camera finds cracked sections you’d never spot from below.

Copperfield made solid, serviceable liners for years, and we see plenty of them across Green Valley, Anthem, and MacDonald Ranch still doing their job. When they do fail, it’s rarely sudden. More often it’s a slow breakdown that shows up as thin cracks, spalling, or gaps at the tile joints. Danny Cortes has pulled enough of these to tell you the truth without drama: some Copperfield liners can wait a season, and some need attention before another fire. We’ll show you the camera footage so you can see exactly which category yours falls into.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
The Copperfield name shows up most often on factory-built fireplace flues and clay tile systems installed in Henderson homes from roughly the 1980s through the early 2000s. If you have a masonry chimney with a clay tile liner, there’s a good chance the original tile carries a Copperfield stamp, though it may have worn off over decades of use. The critical measurement is the inside diameter of your existing flue, not the fireplace brand. Common Henderson Copperfield installations run 6″, 7″, or 8″ round tile, with 8″x8″ square being the most frequent in older Green Valley tract homes.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: your new liner doesn’t have to say Copperfield on it. A correctly sized and properly listed stainless liner from DuraFlex, Gelco, or HeatShield will slip inside the old Copperfield clay tile and perform better than the original. We stock all of these on the truck, along with Copperfield-compatible top plates, caps, and connectors. Kindling Chimney Henderson is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Copperfield, which means we can give you an honest recommendation about whether OEM matching actually matters for your situation. Most of the time, it doesn’t.
If you want to identify your liner before we arrive, check the wall switch or gas valve area for a rating plate, or look for a clay tile edge visible at the top of the flue. If you can’t find it, don’t climb up on a Vegas-area roof in July to look. We’ll identify it from the roof with a ladder we bring ourselves.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Flakes of clay tile showing up in the firebox. This is the one we see most in Henderson. Desert heat cycles cause the tile to expand and contract, and over 20 to 30 years the inner surface starts to spall. Those little bits of terra cotta in your ash are pieces of your liner, not just debris.
- White staining or efflorescence on the chimney exterior. When the liner cracks, moisture sneaks through mortar joints and carries salts to the brick face. It looks like chalk dust you can’t wash off. That’s water moving through places it shouldn’t be.
- A smell like damp campfire coming from the fireplace, even when it’s been unused for months. Creosote absorbed into cracked tile holds moisture and odor. You’ll notice it more before summer monsoon storms push humid air through Henderson.
- Visible gaps or offset tiles on a camera inspection. We run a camera up every flue before we recommend any work. A gap at the tile joint means flue gases can reach the brickwork around the liner. That’s the finding that turns a “watch it” into a “replace it.”
- Smoke rolling back into the room on a partly open damper. If the liner’s internal surface has degraded, the flue can’t draft the way it did when it was new. You’ll notice it most on mild evenings when the temperature differential between inside and outside is weakest.

DIY or Call Us?
Working on a flue liner means being on a roof with tools, often on a two-story Henderson home with a tile roof that doesn’t forgive a wrong step. We never recommend a homeowner attempt a liner pull themselves. The weight of old clay tile, the height, and the risk of dropping debris down the flue make this a professional job. What you can safely check yourself: look inside the firebox for tile flakes, run a hand along the damper for rust, and note any smell coming from the fireplace. That tells us where to start.
Where DIY goes wrong is when someone buys a flexible liner kit online and tries to drop it from the roof. Without the right insulation, the right termination, and the right connection at the appliance, you’ve created a worse situation than the cracked tile you started with. Call (775) 485-5516 and we’ll come take a look. The estimate is free, and you’ll see every finding on camera before you spend a dollar.
FAQs
A clay tile Copperfield liner typically lasts 25 to 40 years in the Henderson climate, but the extreme heat cycling of our summers shortens that compared to coastal or mountain climates. If your liner is over 30 years old, it’s due for a camera inspection even if the fireplace is still drafting fine.
In some cases, yes. A single cracked tile in a short run can be resurfaced with a cerfractory product like HeatShield, which seals the cracks without removing the old tile. We’ll show you the camera footage and tell you plainly whether repair or replacement makes more sense. Call (775) 485-5516 for an exact assessment.
Most straight-run replacements take one full day, including set-up, old tile removal, new liner installation, and clean-up. Two-story flues or homes needing crown work add a second day. We protect your floors and furniture the whole time, and you get a photo of the clean-up before we leave.
We keep common Copperfield-compatible sizes, stainless liners, caps, and top plates on our trucks, so most Henderson jobs don’t need a second visit for parts. If your flue needs a custom measurement, we’ll have the right liner within a few days and schedule the install the week you call.
Know what’s in your flue before you light the first fire of the season. If your Copperfield liner is showing any of the signs above, call (775) 485-5516. A live person answers, we’ll set up the visit, and you’ll get a written price before any work begins.
